Where your data lives.
Residency matters when your data is regulated, when your clients expect it, or when the regulator does. OwnOS gives you a default posture and two explicit routing options for the AI layer.
Default posture
For most owner-run UK businesses without sector-specific residency requirements, the default install:
- Stores all client data in Supabase (EU-West region).
- Routes the LLM layer through Anthropic's API directly. Fast, cost-efficient, sufficient for non-residency-sensitive workloads.
- Surfaces the routing decision in the install's constitution so the team is never confused about where data goes.
Residency-sensitive routing
When a client engagement requires UK / EU residency (healthcare, regulated finance, EU clients, public sector), we flip the LLM provider to one of two enterprise routes:
AWS Bedrock · eu-west-2 (London)
- UK-resident inference for Claude models.
- Falls under AWS's UK-IDTA and EU-SCC posture for any cross- region operational logging.
- Default residency route for OwnOS installs in scope of the EU AI Act or where clients have UK SoT requirements.
GCP Vertex AI EU
- EU-resident inference for Claude models (and others).
- Alternative when an install's wider stack is GCP-leaning.
What stays the same in either route
- Your install is sealed. Anthropic, AWS, and GCP never train on client install data.
- Joint-controller annex covers cases where OwnOS Ltd makes architectural decisions about your data alongside you.
- Annex III categories (recruitment screening, credit decisioning, disciplinary automation) remain out of scope on every install, regardless of residency route.
The trade-off, honestly stated
The enterprise routes (Bedrock / Vertex) add latency and a small cost-per-token premium versus Anthropic direct. For most owner-run UK businesses, the direct route is the right call. For regulated sectors, the latency and cost are part of the architectural budget. We'll tell you which one your install needs at discovery.

If your business has specific residency, certification, or audit requirements, write to privacy@ownos.co.uk before the discovery call. We'll set up the right routing before any data is touched.
